How to Set Up Passbook on an iPhone: 8 Steps

The Passbook feature on iPhone allows you to store tickets, store cards, coupons, and boarding passes in one convenient app and uses GPS location information to show you the right items when you’re in a specific place. This feature can help make it easier for you to go to the movies and can make your flight experience more convenient. If you want to know how to set up and use Passbook on the iPhone, just follow these steps.
STEPS
METHOD 1 OF 2: SET UP PASSBOOK
1
ENTER YOUR HOME SCREEN. The home screen on the iPhone is the screen that allows you to access your contacts, send messages, and use a variety of apps. Just unlock your phone to access this screen.

2
TAP THE PASSBOOK ICON. This icon looks like a black sleeve with three colorful passes in it. Tapping it will launch the Passbook app. This will bring you to a new screen that explains some of the features of Passbook:
Retrieving your boarding passes on your phone and scanning them at the gate
Getting tickets for movies, concerts, and other events
Buying or using store gift cards
Using coupons or discounts on a variety of products and events

3
TAP THE "APP STORE" BUTTON. You can find this button on the bottom of the page. If you haven't used Passbook before, then you'll need to install some apps to get started.

4
TAP THE "FREE" BUTTON NEXT TO AN APP YOU\'D LIKE TO USE. You can find this button to the right of the apps. Just scroll through the apps until you've like to find the one you'd like to start with. When you tap on the button, it will turn into a button that says "Install App." You can install as many apps as you like. Here are some of the most popular apps for Passbook: [1]
Eventbrite
Starbucks
Fandango Movies
Amtrak
American, United, and Delta airlines
Dunkin' Donuts
Walgreens

5
TAP THE "INSTALL APP" BUTTON. Tap the green "Install App" button that appears in place of the "Free" button and wait for the application to install. This could take a few minutes or more, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.
METHOD 2 OF 2: ADD AND USE YOUR PASSES
1
ADD PASSES TO YOUR PASSBOOK. Once you've installed the apps you'd like to use, you can begin to add them to your Passbook. Just remember that not every service uses passbook, so if you don't see an option to use Passbook, the merchant may not support it. But if the passes are available, there are three main ways to add them to your phone:
Through a Passbook-enabled app. If you're using your iPhone Passbook app to buy tickets, check in for a flight, buy a gift card, or complete some other transaction, the app will offer for you to add a pass to Passbook. To use your Passbook-friendly app, either find it by tapping Passbook first, or just find the app on your Home screen.
By mail or messaging. You can also send or receive a pass as an attachment or a link through email or text messaging. If you receive a pass through mail or email, just tap or click on the pass and wait for it to be added to Passbook. For example, an email confirming the movie tickets you bought online could include the ticket pass as an attachment.
By browsing the Internet on your phone. You can also find passes on websites while searching the Internet. To add them to Passbook, just tap on them.
2
USE YOUR PASSES. Once you have your passes on your phone, you need to learn how to use them. Some passes may automatically appear at a certain time and place, like your boarding pass when you arrive at the airport. To display the pass so that it can be scanned, all you need to do is unlock your iPhone.
If you don't see the pass pop up on your lock screen, just select the pass from Passbook.
The pass may not appear on your lock screen because "Show on Lock Screen" is turned off for that pass, or because the merchant of the pass doesn't support this action
3
ADJUST YOUR PASS SETTINGS. To adjust the settings on your pass, just tap the info icon to see the settings and additional information about that pass. The info screen can allow you to remove the pass by tapping the trash icon, setting the pass to be shown or not shown on your lock screen, and also allow the pass to have automatic updates. To turn on the lock screen or automatic update setting, just slide the setting to "on."
The info screen also provides more information about the pass, such as the contact information for the pass provider, which can come in handy if the pass isn't working for some reason.

iOS 6 or later
TIPS
Passbook uses GPS data to show you the right ticket or coupon at the right place. Make sure you have Location Services switched on in the iPhone’s Settings app.
Some apps may not show up in Passbook until you have made a booking or received a coupon.
More apps compatible with Passbook will continue to be launched so check the App Store regularly to add more.
It’s always safer to also carry a physical copy of your tickets where possible in case you lose your iPhone or can’t access the app for some reason.
